I saw my first flock of pelicans two years ago and will never forget how silently they fly overhead. I didn't even realize they were there; I was walking along the beach early morning, up near a sandy wall where shells had washed in during the night. A man and his little girl were waving their arms at me and I glanced up to see about thirty pelicans flying in perfect synch. Their wingspans were much bigger than I expected, but the silence was really something amazing. This is a rare opportunity you found, to photograph a single pelican in flight. Beautiful work, Thomas!
